The Secret to Happiness

Live It, Love Yourself, Laugh It Off

It is human nature to be unsatisfied, to want more, to succumb to expectations and external pressures. And to make things worse the neighbour’s grass always appears to be greener.

Any person’s life will revolve around one of/some of/many of/all of the following things
  1. Career: Power, Money, Knowledge, etc.
  2. People: Family, Friends, Partner, Colleagues, and Society, etc.
  3. Interests: Hobbies, dreams, and passions, etc.
What you do is mostly your choice, and off course there are some unfortunate people who may not have a choice for various reasons. But this is more for people who are not so unfortunate and who have tons of choices in the world to be happy but don’t do shit about it.

I am so tired of hearing the statements or being asked questions such as... “Work hard!”, “But you can make more money!”, “Just follow your dream/passion!”, “What will people think/say?”, ”When are you getting married?”, “Why don’t you buy a new car?”.

Many people struggle with the answers to these questions or try to figure out how to achieve some of these things. But nobody tells you how, and nobody can. And if they do, irrespective of what they say, there is no one size fits all. There simply isn’t.

Not everyone wants to start their own company. Not everyone wants to become rich. Not everyone wants to stay home. Not everyone gives a crap about what other people think. Not everybody thinks the government is responsible for every change in their life. Not everyone is religious. Not everyone wants to be like someone else.

Everyone has to find their own formula. And these are few steps on how to begin.
  1. Stop comparing yourself with others. (Even if you want to be that person)
  2. Understand what truly makes you happy.
  3. Make goals/targets to get those things that make you happy.
  4. Prioritize them.
  5. Focus on achieving them.
  6. Discard negative influences in your life.
  7. Re-evaluate 2-6 as time passes. (Because change is the only constant)
It doesn’t mean that it is easy or that you will get everything you want, but you will at least be focusing on what is important to you instead of wasting your time on things that do not and people who do not bring anything positive to your life.

I’m not saying it’s easy to achieve goals, there will be hindrances, but in order to achieve something, you need to work for it. There are some things you will have to do that you won’t like doing. It’s easy to make excuses, but don’t blame the world if you aren’t willing to try.
